Not many manufacturers of passenger vehicles have had a greater number of publications about them than Ferrari. Since the early beginnings of the Factory their history has been the subject of myth. The explanations for this are numerous. Victories and tragedies in sports car racing, the rich and the famous as the Ferrari-driving figureheads are only a few illustrations. The hype about the brand in the mid-eighties, when prices increased tremendously is probably another one.
This book is different. It will tell no ostensible story told another time. It will not try to rival other publications from highly admired connoisseurs. On the other hand it will lay out the whole existence of the Factory from their first model to the current production.
This book will show you the majority of the cars built by the factory, with their most visible and prominent features. It is an attempt to run down the Factory’s Serial Numbers from 1 up to date.
To explain a little about the intention of the book: The editor is a banker by profession. During a busy time on the job he was looking for something different to spend his time with whilst on vacation and it had to be something manual in contrast to the daily “brainwork”. Building scale model cars was the chosen option. Respecting a little boy’s first automotive love affair, the only cars to be built had to be from the manufacturer in Maranello. And this is how the story started. With every model built, the need to know what that particular car looked like in reality increased and ended in the setup of a sustained research of the cars and their Serial Numbers.
This was more then ten years ago and ever since the editor’s storage of scale model cars left in their original packaging has grown and no further model has been finished since. Instead of cementing small plastic parts, the database of Serial Numbers started a life of its own and what you hold in your hands is the result - a book that was not intended to be.
